Authorities Investigate Fatal Hit-and-Run in Silver Spring Involving Black SUV

Montgomery County Police are actively searching for a black SUV believed to be involved in a tragic hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian on Friday in Silver Spring.

The victim, identified as 61-year-old Hanna Wegayehou from Silver Spring, was struck while crossing Crestmoor Drive around 1:14 p.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to police reports, the driver of the vehicle did not stop after the collision and fled the area. Authorities describe the vehicle as a black SUV with tinted windows, which may have sustained damage to the front or right front area. It was last seen traveling northbound on Colesville Road shortly after the incident, around 1:17 p.m.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit of the Montgomery County Police is conducting an investigation into the incident and is urging anyone who may have information to contact the nonemergency line at 301-279-8000.
