Bel Air Police Utilize Surveillance to Arrest Suspect in Attempted Kidnapping

BEL AIR, Md. — Authorities in Bel Air have arrested a Cecil County man on charges of attempted kidnapping following an incident in which a young girl was reportedly attacked in the Majors Choice neighborhood.

Police Chief Charles Moore stated that the incident occurred Saturday afternoon when the girl was walking along Majors Choice Drive and Grayson Square. According to reports, the suspect allegedly grabbed her by the neck, causing her to scream and flee the scene. The suspect did not pursue her and instead returned to his vehicle.

In the wake of the incident, detectives worked tirelessly, gathering doorbell camera footage from the area. This footage helped track an SUV through the neighborhood, while cell tower data corroborated the suspect's location during the attempted abduction.

“They immediately began scouring the neighborhood looking for surveillance footage,” Moore explained. “They found one residence that had some very grainy footage capturing most of the incident, which indicated the vehicle was either white or grayish and identified as an SUV.”

Following the leads obtained from the footage, police were able to trace the vehicle's registration back to Christopher Lane, a 32-year-old resident of Conowingo, who has since been charged with attempted kidnapping. Lane is set to stand trial on July 30.

Fortunately, the girl involved in the incident was physically unharmed. Local residents expressed relief at the arrest, though concerns linger about safety in their community. One neighbor, Becki Schneitzinger, remarked, “It’s still kind of scary about what are the circumstances around, and why here?”
