Fells Point Faces Another Shooting Incident Amid Concerns Over Safety

BALTIMORE — Fells Point witnessed another episode of gun violence over the weekend, with an 18-year-old shot shortly after midnight on Sunday in the 600 block of South Bethel Street. Baltimore Police have reported that no arrests have been made in connection with this incident.

Just two days earlier, at least a dozen gunshots rang out in the 600 block of South Broadway, prompting panic as people fled the scene. In this earlier incident, police apprehended a 16-year-old who was found with a handgun, while a 19-year-old was also taken into custody but later released.

This recent surge in violence marks the second consecutive weekend in which someone has been shot in the historic district, raising alarms about safety in the area.

In response to large crowds, including many juveniles, Baltimore Police implemented a dispersal order around Broadway Square. Surveillance footage from a local resident also revealed individuals allegedly attempting to sell liquor outside their home, raising concerns about illegal alcohol sales.

Last week, FOX45 News inquired about the number of arrests and citations issued in Fells Point following previous violent incidents and large gatherings. According to police, only two citations were issued between June 12 and June 14, and no arrests were made.

Concerns regarding enforcement of curfews and open container violations have been raised, leading to questions directed at city officials, including the Mayor. Law enforcement expert Jason Johnson noted that the issues may stem from a lack of support and resources for effective policing.

FOX45 News has requested updated arrest and citation statistics from the recent weekend, as well as information on curfew enforcement from the Baltimore Police Department and the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement.
