Annapolis Engages Community in Search for New Police Chief

In a bid to involve the community in the selection of a new police chief, Annapolis is hosting a series of meetings to gather public feedback. This initiative comes after Mayor Jared Littman dismissed former Police Chief Edward Jackson in February, citing management style differences.

On Thursday evening, residents, business owners, and community leaders convened at the Roger Pitt Moyer Recreation Center to discuss their expectations for the next chief of police. The meeting provided a platform for attendees to express their views on the priorities they believe should guide the new leadership.

Key topics of discussion included the need for increased transparency within the police department and improved engagement with the community. Participants shared their perspectives during breakout sessions, which focused on identifying essential qualities and priorities for the incoming chief.

To further facilitate public involvement, the city plans to launch an online survey on Friday, allowing residents to articulate their priorities for the police department. Additionally, two more meetings are scheduled for next week, aimed at encouraging broader participation in the selection process.
