BOZEMAN, Mont. – Law enforcement officials have successfully apprehended a male suspect after a tense standoff at a residence in Bozeman on Thursday afternoon.

According to the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched to serve a temporary order of protection around 4:30 p.m. Upon arrival, they attempted to make contact with the suspect, who had barricaded himself inside the home.

During the encounter, the individual brandished a sword-like weapon, sprayed one of the deputies with pepper spray, and made threatening remarks about harming others. This incident followed a series of previous police interactions involving the suspect, who had reportedly issued threats towards his roommate and neighbors.

To manage the situation, the Gallatin Valley SWAT team was called to the scene. Law enforcement remained on site to ensure the area was secure and to mitigate any ongoing threats to the community.

Gallatin County Sheriff Dan Springer expressed gratitude to the public for their patience as officers worked to de-escalate the situation. The sheriff's office confirmed that the suspect is now in custody and that they will be clearing the area shortly.

The Bozeman Police Department has advised the public to avoid the vicinity of South Wilson Avenue and West Hayes Street while the situation was being resolved.
