In a recent development, the Anne Arundel County police officer, Lieutenant Matthew Ploor, has had charges of assault against a 15-year-old girl dropped. The decision was made by the Anne Arundel County State's Attorney's Office, which concluded that no criminal prosecution was necessary in this case.
The charges, which included first and second-degree assault, were filed in April following an incident involving the teenager and her mother. According to the State's Attorney's Office, the matter was determined to be more appropriately resolved through counseling and treatment rather than through the court system.
As part of the resolution, the officer was required to undergo treatment focused on conflict management, effective communication with adolescents, and maintaining appropriate interactions. Furthermore, Ploor is mandated to have no further contact with the minor involved.
According to charging documents, the situation escalated when the teenager became upset over a disagreement with her mother regarding her hairstyle. Reports indicate that the teen threw a chair during the altercation, prompting Ploor, who is the boyfriend of the girl's mother, to intervene.
Upon arriving at the scene, Ploor allegedly perceived a threat when the teenager stood with her fists clenched, leading him to grab her arms. During this encounter, Ploor's elbow reportedly made contact with the girl's chest.
