The Baltimore County community is mourning the loss of two siblings, identified by police as 9-year-old Steve Allen and his 15-year-old sister, Giovanna Myrie, who were found dead in their Gwynn Oak home.
Authorities responded to reports of a shooting in the 6100 block of Talles Road on Tuesday. Upon their arrival, officers discovered both children suffering from gunshot wounds, and they were pronounced dead at the scene.
In the wake of this tragedy, Western High School, where Myrie was a student, shared a heartfelt tribute on social media. The family of the victims has requested privacy as they navigate this difficult time, according to Sherry Christian, a spokesperson for Baltimore City Public Schools.
Christian expressed condolences on behalf of the school community, stating, “Our hearts are with the children’s family, friends, classmates, and all those affected by this tragic loss.” She also noted that counseling services are available for students and staff in need of support.
The incident has left the normally quiet neighborhood in shock. Residents reported seeing toys left on the grass outside the home, while the blinds remained drawn the morning after the shooting. The only visible evidence of the violence was two bullet holes in the siding of the house.
Police Commissioner Robert McCullough described the event as horrific and tragic, emphasizing that such incidents are uncommon in the area. He confirmed that the children's parents contacted law enforcement to report the shooting.
While police classified the shooting as an isolated incident, they are actively searching for a suspect as part of an ongoing homicide investigation.
