Baltimore City police took decisive action over the weekend to dismantle extensive illegal dirt bike activities and car rallies occurring in the city.
During their enforcement efforts, law enforcement seized ten vehicles, including three illegal dirt bikes, and issued numerous traffic citations to participants.
In a statement, the Baltimore Police Department emphasized its dedication to combating illegal dirt bike operations, reckless driving, and unauthorized vehicle congregations that threaten public safety and community well-being.
On Sunday evening, officers reported encountering over 200 dirt bike riders exhibiting hazardous riding behavior in the 3100 block of Reisterstown Road. The large group had been traversing city parks in both North and South Baltimore, with gatherings concentrated near Druid Hill Park.
As police attempted to manage the situation, they found themselves surrounded by the riders, prompting additional officers to respond. Although the crowd eventually dispersed, police were able to confiscate ten dirt bikes in the process.
Furthermore, two gas stations were cited for illegally fueling the dirt bike riders, with violations recorded at locations on 101 W. Patapsco Avenue and 3601 Potee Street. Station owners could face fines of up to $1,000 or potential jail time of 90 days for permitting such activities at their pumps.
One gas station near W. Cold Spring Lane reported being instructed to deactivate their fuel lines upon noticing approaching dirt bikes.
In addition to the dirt bike incidents, police issued 36 traffic citations and stopped 54 vehicles during a separate large gathering in the 1000 block of Wilson Drive in South Baltimore. Officers strategically positioned themselves at exit routes to apprehend participants.
Among the arrests made, one individual was charged with assaulting a police officer, while another was taken into custody for car theft and handgun-related offenses. Police also recovered a stolen vehicle and towed three others.
