Baltimore's Johns Hopkins Bayview Among Nation's Best Hospitals

According to a report released on Tuesday, Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore has been recognized as one of the top clinical care facilities in the United States, ranking among the top 1 percent of hospitals. This marks the first time the facility has achieved a spot in the top 50, while it has consistently been included in the top 250 for the past eight years.

In addition to Johns Hopkins Bayview, five other hospitals in Maryland have secured positions within the top 5 percent nationwide, as highlighted in the 2025 America’s Best Hospitals Awards by Healthgrades. This ranking categorizes hospitals into three tiers: the top 50, top 100, and top 250, representing the top 1 percent, 2 percent, and 5 percent of clinical care facilities, respectively.

Healthgrades, which provides an online platform for patients to find doctors and hospitals, bases its rankings on a clinically validated methodology that emphasizes patient outcomes. The organization evaluated the clinical performance of approximately 4,500 hospitals across more than 30 common procedures and conditions. This initiative aims to help patients make informed decisions regarding their healthcare providers.

Dr. Brad Bowman, Healthgrades’ chief medical officer, emphasized the importance of hospital quality in influencing patients' overall care experience. He noted that there is a significant performance gap among hospitals, underscoring the need for accessible measures of hospital quality for consumers.

Healthgrades also reported that if all hospitals performed at the level of America’s 250 Best Hospitals, an estimated 174,081 lives could have been saved, highlighting the critical impact of hospital performance on patient outcomes.
