Baltimore Schools and Offices Closed Due to Snowstorm

BALTIMORE, MD — In response to the winter storm affecting the region, Baltimore City has announced the closure of schools and government offices for Monday, January 26. Essential city employees are required to report for work as scheduled.

Baltimore City Public Schools and the Central Office will not operate on this day, marking the first of three designated winter weather make-up days on the school calendar. The Enoch Pratt Free Libraries will also close, canceling all scheduled programs and events.

The Baltimore City Emergency Operations Center is currently activated, and a State of Emergency declared by Mayor Brandon Scott remains in effect. Residents are advised to prepare for disruptions in in-person services and can find online payment options through the city’s website.

As snowfall began early Sunday morning and is expected to continue, the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for the Baltimore area. Accumulations have already reached 6.7 inches by the afternoon, with additional snow, sleet, and ice anticipated.

In light of the storm, the city has initiated a volunteer program called “Baltimore Snow Corps,” aimed at assisting residents, particularly seniors and individuals with disabilities, in clearing snow from sidewalks. Those in need of help or wishing to volunteer can sign up by calling 311 or using the BALT311 app.

The Department of Transportation has deployed over 700 vehicles for snow removal, focusing on key routes including those leading to schools and hospitals. Residents are urged to stay home unless travel is essential and to report any icy conditions to 311.

Parking restrictions are in place along snow emergency routes to facilitate plowing, and residents may utilize free parking in designated city-owned garages and select school lots. Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) has reported no widespread outages but encourages customers to report any issues.
