Bel Air Police Arrest Suspect in Attempted Kidnapping of Young Girl

BEL AIR, Md. — Authorities in Bel Air have arrested a man in connection with an attempted kidnapping that occurred over the weekend.

Christopher Jene Lane, 32, from Conowingo, Maryland, was taken into custody on Monday through a collaborative effort involving the Bel Air Police Department and the Harford County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident took place around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday when the young victim was walking along a sidewalk on Majors Choice Drive, close to a pond. Police say Lane approached the girl from behind and grabbed her by the neck.

Fortunately, the girl managed to escape after screaming and causing a disturbance, allowing her to flee to a nearby neighbor’s house for assistance.

Bel Air Police Sgt. Sergio D’Alto praised the girl's quick response, stating, “Fortunately, the juvenile had her wits about her, was able to scream, cause a commotion, and run away.”

Following the incident, Lane was brought to the Bel Air Police Department where he was interviewed and processed. His vehicle was also located and seized as part of the ongoing investigation.

Lane now faces multiple charges, including attempted kidnapping, attempted kidnapping of a child under 16, and attempted false imprisonment. He is currently being held without bond.
