A 72-year-old woman from Baltimore, who had been missing for nearly a month, was discovered dead on Monday. Darlene Campbell, who suffered from dementia, was last seen in the Charles Village neighborhood on June 17.
According to the Baltimore Police Department, her remains were located in a building situated in the 1900 block of Greenmount Avenue. Surveillance footage captured Campbell walking eastward from her home towards Greenmount Avenue shortly before she was reported missing.
Authorities have sent her remains to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to ascertain the cause and manner of her death. This development has left family and community members in shock, as they had actively searched for Campbell over the weekend without any leads.
Lisa Campbell, Darlene's daughter, expressed her disbelief at the situation, noting that her mother had not gone for walks in over a year due to ongoing leg pain and balance issues. The family had organized search efforts, scouring alleys and vacant lots in hopes of finding her.
Community members fondly remembered Darlene Campbell as a nurturing figure, often cooking large meals for family and neighbors. Lisa described her mother as someone who always went above and beyond for others, serving as the glue that held their family together.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death is ongoing as the community mourns the loss of a beloved resident.
