Community Grieves After Siblings Fatally Shot in Gwynn Oak

GWYNN OAK, Md. — A quiet community in Gwynn Oak is reeling after the tragic shooting deaths of two siblings, a 9-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl, on Tuesday night. Authorities are currently investigating the incident and searching for a suspect.

On Wednesday, residents observed bullet holes in the siding of a home on Talles Road, where the shooting occurred. The neighborhood, known for its peaceful atmosphere, has been shaken by the violence.

Natalie Green, a nearby resident, expressed her sorrow, recalling moments of interaction with the young boy. “I see him coming home from school every day, walking,” she said. “When I found out that happened, it was just heartbreaking.” Green shared a memory of her dog escaping and how the boy helped her bring the pet back, underscoring the personal connection she felt to the family.

Longtime resident Shelly Roscoe, who has lived in the area for three decades, described the incident as “devastating” and expressed her condolences to the families affected. “It’s sad for the families and for the parents, mostly their parents and the family and for the community as well,” Roscoe stated.

Police Chief Robert McCullough addressed the incident, stating, “I’ve seen a lot of things in my career, but this is something that’s horrific. It’s tragic. It’s something that doesn’t happen in this community here. These are two lives that have been snuffed out before they could even get started.” He noted that the most severe issues typically faced by police in the area are minor complaints, such as speeding and noise.

As of Wednesday, police had not released further details but continued to seek information regarding the suspect. Authorities are urging anyone with relevant information to contact them at 410-887-4636.
