FREDERICK, Md. — A 31-year-old woman, who had been deported to Ecuador, was arrested in Frederick after returning to the U.S. illegally and allegedly stabbing a man.

Vanessa Yalixa Munoz-Baque was deported in August 2023 but re-entered the country three months later, settling in Frederick. On September 11, 2024, she was apprehended following an incident where she stabbed a man and threatened him with a knife.

Initially charged with attempted murder, Munoz-Baque later pleaded guilty to first-degree assault. She received a three-year sentence in jail for her actions.

Her arrest triggered a notification to federal immigration authorities regarding her illegal presence in the United States. Subsequently, she was sentenced to an additional six months in federal prison.

In related news, the Department of Justice has also indicted Roberto Lopez-Perez, a Honduran national found in Talbot County after having been previously deported. Additionally, another undocumented migrant from Guatemala, Desiderio Eliceo Perez Gonzalez, recently pleaded guilty for illegally crossing into the U.S. from Mexico and is awaiting sentencing.
