PIKESVILLE, Md. — A catastrophic accident occurred on Wednesday evening involving an MTA bus, resulting in multiple injuries and significant property damage.
According to Baltimore County police, the incident took place around 6 p.m. in the 1500 block of Reisterstown Road. The bus, traveling southbound, collided with several vehicles before veering off course and crashing into a FedEx building.
The collision involved a total of 12 vehicles, with reports indicating that 36 individuals sustained injuries. Among the injured is the bus driver, who is currently in critical condition.
Fire Chief Joe Dixon described the scene as resembling a disaster zone, expressing relief that all individuals involved survived the incident. He emphasized the ongoing efforts by first responders to restore normalcy to the community.
Local attorney Yehoshya Bier, who specializes in personal injury cases, remarked on the severity of the accident, noting it was unlike anything he had encountered in his 12 years of practice in Baltimore.
Video evidence captured by nearby security cameras indicated that the MTA bus ran a red light before impacting a white SUV.
In response to the emergency, 15 ambulances, including those from Howard and Anne Arundel counties, were dispatched to transport the injured to local hospitals. Additionally, Baltimore Gas and Electric (BGE) responded to reports of downed power lines in the vicinity following the crash.
Statements were released by both Governor Wes Moore and Baltimore County Councilman Julian Jones, expressing their thoughts and prayers for those affected. Governor Moore commended the quick actions of first responders, while Councilman Jones highlighted the coordinated emergency response in progress.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
