Elderly Couple Found Dead in Montgomery County; Carbon Monoxide Suspected

Montgomery County police are investigating the tragic deaths of an elderly couple believed to have succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning over the weekend.

Officers were dispatched to a residence located on the 12700 block of Fernberry Lane after a home health aide reported being unable to reach the residents, 91-year-old Ceferino Jarin and 89-year-old Elizabeth Jarin.

Family members arrived shortly thereafter and discovered the couple unresponsive inside their home. They promptly called 911 for assistance.

Emergency responders pronounced both individuals dead at the scene. According to police, the situation does not appear to be suspicious.

On Saturday, Elizabeth Jarin had expressed concern about a smoke alarm sounding, but her husband was unable to deactivate it. Investigators later found that Fire and Rescue personnel measured carbon monoxide levels reaching 2,000 parts per million in the main level of the home.

Additionally, a vehicle with its engine running was located inside the garage, further indicating a potential source of the carbon monoxide.
