Bowie, Md. — A tragic incident occurred late Saturday night when a small plane crashed in Bowie, resulting in the deaths of three people.

According to Maryland State Police, the single-engine Piper Cherokee was en route from Ocean City, New Jersey, to Montgomery County Air Park in Gaithersburg when it went down around 11:30 PM.

Search and rescue teams, alerted by a specialized iPhone application, located the wreckage near a residential area off Scarlett Oak Court at approximately 3:45 AM.

The crash claimed the lives of one pilot and two passengers, whose identities have not yet been released. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported among local residents.

The aircraft involved in the crash is owned by a flight school based in Gaithersburg. Preliminary investigations suggest that the pilot was conducting a training flight at the time of the accident.
