Fire Recruit Under Investigation After Threats and Loaded Guns Found

A recruit for the Baltimore City Fire Department is currently under investigation following allegations of making violent threats and arriving at the fire academy with loaded guns in his car.

The incident took place on Tuesday at the training facility located on Pulaski Highway. According to Matthew Coster, president of the Baltimore Firefighters Union, the recruit sent alarming text messages to fellow trainees, expressing intentions to harm others and himself.

Concerned classmates reported these messages to the academy staff, prompting immediate action from authorities. Police were called to the scene, where they discovered several loaded firearms inside the recruit's vehicle. Fortunately, no injuries were reported during this incident.

In response to the situation, crisis response personnel transported the recruit to a hospital for further evaluation.

Coster raised significant concerns regarding the current screening process for recruits in the department, which includes criminal background checks but lacks a comprehensive mental health evaluation.
