New Leaders Emerge in Maryland County Executive Races

BALTIMORE — The recent Primary Election in Maryland has set the stage for new leadership in several counties as term limits prompt changes in County Executive offices.

In Howard County, former Maryland Delegate Vanessa Atterbeary has secured the Democratic nomination to succeed outgoing Executive Calvin Ball. Atterbeary triumphed over current Councilwomen Deb Jung and Liz Walsh. With no Republican challenger in the race, Atterbeary is positioned to become the next leader of Howard County.

In Baltimore County, the contest between Councilmen Julian Jones and Izzy Patoka remains unresolved. As of the latest updates, Jones holds a lead of nearly 8,000 votes, with the final outcome still pending.

Anne Arundel County is witnessing a close contest for the seat currently held by Democrat Steuart Pittman. Candidates James Kitchin and Pete Smith are in a tight race, with Kitchin leading by less than two points. The eventual winner will face Republican nominee Dave Crawford in the upcoming General Election.

In Harford County, incumbent Bob Cassilly is set to run as the Republican nominee. He will face one of two candidates, Matthew Brown or Barbara Kreamer, who are locked in a close race separated by just four votes, according to the Maryland Board of Elections.
