North Potomac Teen Arrested for Gaithersburg Shooting and Carjacking

Montgomery County Police have apprehended an 18-year-old from North Potomac in relation to a deadly shooting and carjacking that occurred in Gaithersburg.

Earl Deangelo Charles Jr. faces serious charges, including first-degree murder, armed carjacking, and the use of a firearm in a violent crime, according to police reports released on Tuesday.

The incident in question resulted in the death of 32-year-old Christopher Gove on April 9. Police responded to a shooting call shortly before 6 a.m. in the 12500 block of Carrington Hill Drive, where they discovered Gove inside a residence suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Evidence collected at the scene included a shell casing found in the driveway, and witnesses reported seeing a black vehicle fleeing the area. Gove's Toyota Highlander was located approximately five miles away from the shooting scene, having been involved in a single-vehicle accident.

Upon executing a search warrant on the Highlander, detectives recovered additional evidence. Forensic analysis linked the shell casing found at the scene to a firearm that had been recovered in Prince George’s County. Investigators also noted that Charles had a prior arrest connected to the same firearm.

An arrest warrant for Charles was issued on Friday, and he was taken into custody on Monday in Prince George’s County. He is currently being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit, awaiting a bond hearing.

As of Tuesday morning, it remains unclear whether Charles has secured legal representation.
