Pikesville Bus Crash Leaves 28 Injured, One in Critical Condition

A bus accident in Pikesville, a suburb of Baltimore, resulted in injuries to at least 28 individuals on Wednesday night, July 8. The incident was classified as a mass casualty event by the Baltimore County Fire Department.

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) bus was involved in a collision with several cars before crashing into a building located at 500 West Franklin Street. Initial reports indicate that the bus first struck a Lexus and then a Nissan before coming to a halt against the structure.

One person is reported to be in critical condition, while emergency responders worked to assist those injured. Kevin Cartwright, communications director for the Baltimore City Fire Department, noted that the situation warranted escalation to a level one mass casualty event due to the number of patients involved.

Rescue teams successfully extricated the bus driver from the vehicle, which was lodged into the building. All injured parties were transported to a nearby hospital for medical care.

The Baltimore City Fire Department’s special rescue operations team conducted an assessment of the impacted four-story apartment building. They confirmed that the building's support beams were intact, although the first floor was temporarily condemned.

Authorities have advised motorists to steer clear of the area as emergency personnel continue their operations. The investigation into the cause of the crash is currently underway, with MTA Police, the Baltimore City Fire Department, and building inspectors present at the scene.
