Severe Thunderstorms Bring Heavy Rain and Damage to Southern Maryland

Severe weather swept through Southern Maryland and the Eastern Shore on Monday, June 22, prompting multiple Severe Thunderstorm Warnings and a few Tornado Warnings. The storm system resulted in heavy rainfall, damaging wind gusts, hail, and frequent lightning strikes.

The most significant storm damage was reported southeast of the I-95 corridor, where numerous trees and power lines were downed. Residents are advised to exercise caution when traveling, as debris and downed wires may still obstruct roadways.

Rainfall totals were particularly high in areas south and east of the Baltimore metro, with some locations in Anne Arundel and Talbot counties receiving between 2 to 3 inches of rain. Despite these recent storms, Baltimore remains below average for rainfall, with less than an inch recorded at the airport. Throughout the month of June, the city typically expects around 4 inches of rain.
