Severe Thunderstorms Expected in Baltimore Area with Wind and Tornado Risks

The Greater Baltimore region is bracing for strong thunderstorms that could bring damaging winds beginning around 2 p.m. on Monday. The storms are anticipated to first impact Western Maryland before moving eastward.

According to the National Weather Service, the Baltimore area is under a slight risk of severe weather, with winds potentially reaching up to 60 mph. Meteorologist Samantha Timmers noted that there is a 15% to 29% chance of experiencing severe winds during the afternoon into the early evening.

In addition to high winds, the storms may also produce isolated instances of large hail and a brief tornado threat, although these occurrences are considered less likely.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed about weather developments and can sign up for alerts through the Maryland Department of Emergency Management. Alerts can be accessed via the department’s website or by texting MdReady to 211-631.

In the event of a tornado, it is advised to seek shelter indoors, preferably on the lowest level of a building and away from windows.
