Three Officers Hurt in High-Speed Pursuit Ending in Sandtown-Winchester

Three officers from the Baltimore Police Department sustained injuries during a high-speed pursuit connected to an alleged carjacking on Wednesday evening in the Sandtown-Winchester neighborhood.

The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Dwight Williams, was apprehended after crashing into several vehicles and ultimately colliding with a building on Booker Court. Williams faces multiple charges, including assault, reckless driving, and attempting to evade law enforcement, according to Chakia Fennoy, a spokesperson for the police.

The incident began around 7:15 p.m. when officers from the Regional Auto Theft Task Force attempted to stop a vehicle linked to a carjacking that had occurred in the 3100 block of West North Avenue. Upon noticing the police, Williams fled the scene at high speed.

In an effort to track the fleeing vehicle, police requested assistance from a helicopter unit known as Foxtrot. During the pursuit, Williams collided with multiple cars, including two police vehicles, before crashing into a building.

After the crash, Williams attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by officers shortly after 7:59 p.m. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Additionally, three officers and another individual involved in the incident received medical attention at nearby hospitals.

The Baltimore Police Department's Traffic Investigation Unit is currently conducting an investigation into the events that transpired.

This incident follows another recent carjacking case in Anne Arundel County, where police officers shot at a suspect who drove toward them, striking an officer and two patrol vehicles.
