The United States has launched further military strikes against Iran on Wednesday, escalating a series of confrontations that have unsettled the Gulf region and jeopardized an existing ceasefire.
According to U.S. Central Command, the strikes are intended to diminish Iran's capability to threaten navigation in the critical Strait of Hormuz.
Central Command stated, "The United States is holding Iran accountable for recent unjustified aggression against commercial shipping and civilian crews freely navigating a vital international waterway."
This marks the second consecutive day of U.S. military actions, which were prompted by Iran's attack on three commercial vessels in Oman's territorial waters near the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday morning.
The strikes initiated on Tuesday specifically targeted Iranian launch sites and air defense systems.
Despite the ongoing military actions, the U.S. and Iran are technically bound by a ceasefire agreement established in June. However, President Donald Trump expressed skepticism about the negotiations, stating on Wednesday, "For me, I think it’s over."
