BALTIMORE — The Baltimore Board of Estimates has approved a budget of $7,482.17 to fund Mayor Brandon Scott's trip to the Essence Festival of Culture in New Orleans, scheduled for July 3-5.
The Essence Festival is recognized as the largest celebration of Black culture and music in the United States. Mayor Scott will be participating in a panel discussion titled "Resist. Build. Unite," which aims to explore topics related to movement building, legal advocacy, and the significance of organizing in contemporary society.
In the previous year, Scott also attended the festival, where he engaged in discussions at the Global Black Economic Forum, focusing on strategies for reducing violence in Baltimore and addressing gun-related issues.
This annual event features performances by prominent R&B artists, including Kehlani, Brandy, Monica, and rapper Latto. In addition to musical acts, attendees can enjoy various activities such as a wrestling match, shopping, and informative panels like the one Scott will be part of.
