As summer comes to a close, the Baltimore City Fire Department is gearing up to host 'Fridays at the Firehouse,' a program designed to engage local youth with the fire service profession.
Throughout the remainder of August, specifically on the 11th, 18th, and 25th, children and their families are encouraged to visit one of four participating fire stations from noon to 2:00 PM.
The initiative aims to educate children aged 18 and under about fire safety and the firefighting profession. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to don firefighter turnout gear and helmets, climb aboard fire engines and trucks, and learn essential fire prevention techniques.
Key topics covered during these sessions will include:
- How to prevent fires in the home
- Steps to take in the event of a fire
- The importance of functioning smoke alarms
- Creating a home escape plan
In addition to educational components, participants can look forward to interactive exercises, mini exhibitions by firefighters, and guided tours of the fire stations. The event will also feature games, giveaways, and, notably, a complimentary lunch for all attendees.
