BALTIMORE — Dr. Sonja Santelises, the CEO of Baltimore City Public Schools, has been appointed as the second superintendent-in-residence at The Broad Center at the Yale School of Management.
This new position will not interfere with her current responsibilities as CEO, as it is designed to be part-time and flexible.
The Broad Center provides two tuition-free programs aimed at urban school leaders, which include a Master’s in Public Education Management and a Fellowship for Public Education Leadership. In her new role, Dr. Santelises will facilitate fellowship sessions, instruct in the master’s program, and mentor alumni who are preparing for leadership positions within school districts.
Yale SOM Dean Kerwin K. Charles highlighted Dr. Santelises's dedication to enhancing curricula, improving sustainability in school facilities, modernizing vocational training, and addressing the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since assuming leadership of Baltimore City Public Schools in 2016, Dr. Santelises has been instrumental in various initiatives and will continue to serve in her role until June 30, 2026. The Board of School Commissioners is currently seeking her successor.
