Couple Arrested After Unfurling Love Banner from Empire State Building

Two individuals were arrested on Tuesday afternoon after they climbed to the top of the Empire State Building's antenna and unfurled a banner proclaiming the message about 'the power of love.' The incident occurred around midday, drawing attention from onlookers and news helicopters.

Wearing black clothing and masks, the couple balanced on a narrow ledge at a height of 1,454 feet above midtown Manhattan. Video footage captured them embracing and appearing to kiss while displaying a banner that read, 'when the power of love beats the love of power the world knows peace.'

Following their display, the pair began their descent shortly after 12:30 p.m., navigating the metal latticework of the antenna. At one point, one of the individuals set up electronic equipment and kneeled down, while the other took selfies, seemingly examining a ring.

Authorities apprehended the duo around 1 p.m., and fortunately, no injuries were reported during the incident. The method by which they accessed the antenna remains unknown, as it is situated above public areas of the iconic 102-story building.

In the past, other daredevils have attempted similar climbs of the Empire State Building's antenna, although most of these ascents are unauthorized. Notably, actor Jared Leto was granted permission to climb to the base of the antenna in 2023 for promotional purposes.
